If you
live in Utah
and are going to adopt, you will need an adoption home study. This is
required by the State of Utah
before a child can be placed in your custody as adoptive parents. It is
recommended that you complete a home study as one of the first steps in
your adoption process. We offer both domestic and international home
studies.

The
adoption home study report requires the prospective adoptive family to
gather different documents, answer several questions, and explore their
reasons for adopting. These all become a part of the decision making
process for both the prospective family and the workers involved albeit
attorneys, agencies or the courts. Not only can the report help the
worker place a child into your home who would best fit into your
family, but help the family and the worker decide if now is a good time
for your family to adopt. Adoption home
study fees
are
based in part on the location of your residence.
Our
professionals will help you know what to prepare for your home
study. Questions are about your family, immediate and
extended; how you approach discipline, your childhood memories and
background. Be prepared to describe your environment. What is your
school system like? Which schools will your child/ren attend? What is
your relationship with your neighbors? What resources does
your community offer to help you parent an adopted or special
needs child? Documentation of all of these characteristics is a
necessary part of your home study. You can see a sample
home study here.
Answers
to your questions will be a part of the process and there are many
questions that arise in the adoption process. An adoption
home study can create nervousness, but if you go in prepared and know
what to expect you will get through it just fine! As always, our best
wishes to you on your adoption
journey.
